Full knee replacement operation in VR

If you’re starting to feel that this blog has become too focused on medical applications for virtual reality technology please rest assured, it’s just a phase. Over the next few weeks we’ll be dipping into electrical health & safety training, architectural sales and collaborative car design.

I’ve been spending much time recently checking out what various companies have been up to with VR in industries where virtual reality is pretty old hat. I presumed that they would be way ahead of other industries newly scrabbling to become a part of the metaverse and in some ways that does seem to be the case. Automobiles, engineering and architecture have been using VR for donkeys, but medical training has also been in the game for aeons (relatively speaking).

So here’s a great video showing someone going through all the motions of performing full knee surgery in virtual reality. This will be the last medical training blog for a while, promise…
