Over the years, virtual reality has been used to accelerate learning. For example, Boeing have been using it to train their mechanics to instal new landing gear into their planes, even before they have rolled off the production line (click here to watch video).

VR has even started to play an important role in improving the performance of elite athletes. It has gained huge traction in the NFL, particularly when it comes to training quarterbacks who, rather than watching hours and hours of videotape (as they did in the 20th century) instead now don VR headsets to be immersed in 360 videos of the various plays they have to memorise. The pioneers in this field include STRIVR, who have since branched out into corporate training, helping companies like Walmart train their staff in VR.

Another sport in which VR was proven to make a significant difference to players’ abilities was actually baseball. High school athletes were randomised into two groups who either got extra batting practice in real life or in virtual reality (VR). Those whose practice took place in VR ended up performing better in that season. For the geeks out there you can download the published scientific research paper here.

Not only did they perform better during their high school baseball career, but a higher proportion of the VR-trained athletes went on to perform better at university level and on leaving higher education: they were also more likely to secure major league baseball contracts than peers who just did extra batting practice in real life.

While Brain Man VR are primarily focused on getting teams working better together by using VR headsets instead of videoconferencing to meet up to discuss projects and give presentations on progress to each other, our roadmap leaves room for making bespoke training packages further down the line. If this is of interest to you, then please do get in touch post haste…
